Frequently Asked Questions

What is Medical Tourism?

Medical tourism refers to the process of traveling outside ones country of residence for the purpose of receiving medical, dental and surgical care while at the same time receiving equal to, or greater care, than one would receive in their own country. In most cases traveling for medical care is due to affordability, better access to care or a higher level of quality of care.

Why travel internationally for Medical Tourism? What are the savings?

Many people are traveling abroad because of the high quality of healthcare, affordability, access of care or better availability of procedures. Savings can be from 20-60%, depending upon the procedure and the time available. It's important to understand that the difference in cost is caused by multiple reasons, such as labor costs and favorable currency rates, and not by a lack of quality. A good portion of health care costs in the U.S. are tied up with administrative and insurance costs. Some other reasons may include: lower cost of labor, lower government taxes, favorable exchange rates, lower construction costs, and many more.

Why should your company consider medical tourism as an employee benefit?

Just like individuals, companies are also affected by the rising costs of health insurance in the US and are interested in less costly options. However, unlike individuals, companies aren’t just affected by the rising costs of health insurance, but also by the increasing number of employees they hire as they grow. Lower healthcare costs allow companies looking for talented people to offer more benefits or higher salaries. Companies can offer their employees access to highly desirable procedures that are not typically options in the US or Canada because they are not covered by insurance. Medical travel eliminates bureaucratic delays and less leave times.

Can I take a family member/friend with me when I am traveling?

Most of our patients decide to travel with a care companion, which is often a family member or friend. Even though PatagoniaMed will be available throughout your trip, we want you to have someone with you during your procedure. When we discuss specifics of your travel and cost, this can be factored into your personalized medical travel plan.

Where will I be staying while I’m abroad?

Before leaving the United States you will have several options for accomodations as well as tourism packages in Buenos Aires, the Capital of Argentina. PatagoniaMed Inc. has feet on the ground where you will be traveling to, our operations officer, the primary person you will be engaging with on a daily basis, will assist you with transportation, check-in and locating nearby facilities such as restaurants, Wi-Fi access, and more.
